Where is NASCAR heading?

Posted on: February 6, 2008 8:36 am

Just wondering where NASCAR is going? I have not been happy with some ot the things The Ringmaster has done since he's taken over for his grandfather. He has it in his head that he can compete and even be bigger than the NFL. While we all know this is a fantasy it may be the demise of NASCAR. I suppose as long as he keeps his pockets lined he really doesn't care about what type of product is being put out there. Now that the football season is over NASCAR pretty much has the stage to themselves. Hopefully they can improve on their product in 2008. What do others think, pro or con?...bluejay

Where is NASCAR heading?

I wonder the same thing sometimes. I don't like where nascar is headed at all..Up untill 2004, Nascar was a booming sport and still climbing the ranks of the most watched..Then the chase came...I loved it when nascar could be called one of the only sports where championships were based on season long performances, rather then a 10 race shootout..Mr France said that  a chase would create excitement. Well im still waiting for the exciting racing it was suppost to bring. And the COT..Well why dont they just take word "stock" out of NASCAR...Thats really all i can say about that. And the sport, thanks to France, is becoming politically correct..for reasons I dont know

Where is NASCAR heading?

I thought blogs were supposed to be long-winded things that wouldn't fit as a post. The first reply was actually longer than you blog bluejay. I will keep mine short so I don't show you up.

My opinion is NASCAR should undo some of their "Enhancements"

Where is NASCAR heading?

Section - I didn't want to to off on a tangent right out of the gate. I wanted to see if I could get a feel for what people are thinking for the upcoming season. I know I am starting to become disenchanted with some of the things the ringmaster is doing. Besides I'm just getting used to this. Thanks for the advice...bluejay

Where is NASCAR heading?

Bluejay I think you know how I feel, from a previous post. As of now there is nothing STOCK about the car, thanx to COT. Section and ihatelouisville are right on. Along with new leaders comes change. They (the corps.) have total controll, with there money, so France and all the powers to be get paid thru the corps. money. Political correctness has taken all the(large part of) the human emotion factor, all  these warnings and fines, fights (scuffles) to a different level. If a driver says the wrong thing he is dealt with immediatley, and broadcast all through out the media and in the puplic eye. Tide or Office Depot does'nt want " lil johnny" hearing or seeing true human emotion that is involved with driving 495 laps of a 500 lap race, only to have a boneheaded mistake or mis judgement take a driver that has fought all day to come to an end.  Oh wow look I've gone off on Tangent.........P.S. This new point race thing is'nt all that they say it would be.

Where is NASCAR heading?

I agree with many of your points Nascar has lost some of my interest over the past few years. I have not been as diehard having to watch each and every race lap for lap but wow all I can say is tonight the Budwieser Shootout was a big step in the right direction!!!

I love Junior and was so happy to see him win!!! Love him or hate him it is a very good thing for Nascar when he wins!!!! It's about damn time he wins too!!!!

I think NASCAR may be headed back in the right direction tonight was just a great night as it appears the sports biggest star has found the right home, we had an amazing suspensful race, and the beginning of the COT era was a success!!!! Will see what happens but I can guarntee you if Junior is kicking butt I will be tuning in much more this season.

Where is NASCAR heading?

You have all hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned.  I used to attend races all the time...back when it was fun.  I'm twenty six years old, didnt get into racing until I was probably 14 or so. But I've still been around long enough to see this circuit turn itself upside down.  I mean, NASCAR was Rockingham, Darlington......North Wilkesboro.  They've taken the sport away from the South where it is/was HUGE. They've expanded it to bigger tracks in the North, when I say bigger.....I dont really mean better either.  Chicago, Michigan, Vegas, California, Texas....all these tracks put me to sleep. Honestly, I want to see bumping and banging, tempers flaring and everything else that goes along with that. I do not want to see 3 hour races where the most exciting thing you see or hear about is fuel mileage. The tired announcers are another cause for concern, from Larry Mac's "pull that seatbelt one more time' to DW's "blabbity blabbity blabbity lets go racin".  Bruton Smith has a big hand in this, buying the small tracks where the excitement is and putting them into his bigger facilities (you know...the ones you see all the empty seats in).   I remember when you couldnt get a ticket to ANY event during speedweek. What did I see in the shootout? A very empty backstretch.  When NASCAR'S "super bowl" has the same attendance as a remote control car event in Guatamala......I'm concerned, to say the least.  Also, what is this crap about having the awards ceremony in NYC? I mean, besides the sponsors having headquarters up that way....it just goes to show, France cares absolutely NOTHING about the fans that made the sport what it is. The Fans giveth, the fans will taketh away. I assure you....if NASCAR has to rely on Northerners for its fan base and funding....Cart and IRL are going to back huge comebacks and NASCAR will be right back to where it started, except racing on beaches in Florida...they'll be putting studded tires on and running laps in Bangor, Maine.  There hasnt been anything STOCK about these cars in a long time, but I will say the COT is promising to be an extremely boring car...even last year at the smaller tracks....they didnt wreck.  If we keep going in this direction, by midseason I'll no longer be a Winston Cup fan (sorry, I refuse to acknowledge the sprint nextel wireless shootout cup or whatever its called).  Mr. France should do the world a favor.......find a bridge....you guys/girls can finish the sentence.

Where is NASCAR heading?

Well Im not so sure about any racing going on in Bangor, but theres plenty of space up here in Maine for a good ol 3/4 miler.

Ive been losing interest in Nascar for awhile now, the direction its going is basicly whoring itself for the highest dollar. All the while bringing in these "young guns" before they really are ready to make the transition, and the old gunslingers get closer to the door. The chase is a horrible idea and I hope the ringleader realizes this error before its too late. Nascar is a shell of its former self, and it seems like it drifts further away from where it should be every day.

About Bluejay's Nest
I saw others blogging so I though I would try as well. I live in Cambridge,WI and have all my life. I enjoy most sports and am a diehard Packer, Badger & Cubs fan (yes I like the Brewers as well). I really love auto racing but have been disappointed with the direction NASCAR has gone since Brian France took over. I have nicknamed him "The Ringmaster" since it's more of a circus atmosphere now than a race. I don't kow if that's good or bad but the popularity of NASCAR seems to be going down, at least with the fans who made it what it is/was. I post mostly on the autoboards and there is a great group of people over there. If you enjoy racing stop on over. Even if you don't check us out, as I said there's a great group over there. Thanks for reading...bluejay
