Tire Issue in Atlanta, Tony Has His Say!

(Hampton, GA) - After the tire that Goodyear brought to Atlanta Motor Speedway made for a boring race too watch and drew the ire of some drivers only Tony Stewart is getting criticized. Jimmy Spencer said Tony had it wrong but then seemed to change his stance when he heard a Dale Earnhardt Jr. interview that said pretty much the same thing.

I challenge the arguement that some say (Dave DeSpain for one)  there were no tires imploding  so it made for a safer race. While agree they can't have tires imploding like there was at Las Vegas, the reason it was safer was drivers were afraid to "get after it" so to speak, in fear of wrecking because they couldn't get through the turns. He also said he doesn't see NASCAR changing. Of course they won't change since The Ringmaster (Brian France) and Goodyear are joined at the hip!

Tony Stewart had the guts to say what most drivers felt, so he's a whinner? Let see how many people do a Jimmy Spencer when they find out Dale Earnhardt Jr. said the same thing. What's wrong with bringing back Hoosier & Firestone? Isn't it the Amercan Way to have a choice and free enterprise? What are you thoughts on the issue?...bluejay

Tire Issue in Atlanta, Tony Has His Say!

Well Put Blu, I have to agree and have them bring back another tire. I would think it would make them more competitive. Costs, of course,Testing etc..... But wouldnt you (if you were an owner or driver) want an option to go to a different tire depending on the scenario? That or NASCAR just wants everyone to have the same problems and figure it out!

Tire Issue in Atlanta, Tony Has His Say!

Lnwlf & Falcon Fan - Thanks for the comments. As far as kissing the backsides of Goodyear & NASCAR you hit the nail right squarely on the head Falcon. That's what some fans can't or won't see. The following is part of an article found here on CBS:

Goodyear also defended itself against accusations Stewart made that the tire company was chased from several other racing series.

"They got run out of Formula One. They got run out of CART, the IRL. They got run out of World of Outlaws sprint cars. They got run out of USAC divisions because they couldn't keep up and make a quality enough product," Stewart said.

Goodyear called Stewart's remark an "erroneous comment" and said it
