Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Posted on: March 7, 2008 9:25 am

I'm sure this will get a variety of responses, if people read it but I welcome your thoughts. In light of NASCAR's penalty to Carl Edwards for not failing post race inspection but something looking "amiss" on the car, what would do?

If you don't like NASCAR please don't respond with the "get rid of it" and things like that. I am just curious as to what people might come up with. Personally I think they should open things up a little more as I do not care for a glorified IROC series. The sport was built on who could get away with the most and breaking the law anyway so I say enough of all this politically correct BS and get back to racing...bluejay

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

I fully agree Bee-Jay. They need to get back to thier roots........"Old School" racin'. Its getting out of hand,a nd it ain't as exciting as it used to be. How do you think the ratings would go if every week we got to see two drivers scrum after a wreck, and helmet throwing etc.... They would skyrocket and the sponsors would love it. Robert yates and some other teams having problems finding a sponsor would be a thing of the past. Bangin' and Bashin' baby.................

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Fitz - Thanks for the comment. What people need to remember is that's essentially what put NASCAR on the map in 1979. The fight between Cale Yarborough & Bobby Allsion after Donnie Allsion and Cale had tangled on the backstrecth and came to rest on the infield of turn 3 on the last lap of  the Daytona 500. After that ESPN (in the early days) had the best coverage and great announcers so the popularity grew. I can still hear Bob Jenkins calling a race along with Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett. Then NASCAR got greedy and sold out to the highest bidder. I don't blame them for trying to make a buck but the quality has gone down hill ever since, IMO...bluejay

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

The question is: Why doesn't NASCAR realize this? They have to know it's what the fans want. It's the France family and ISC. Fugg-Em.

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Fitz - The "Ringmaster" as sold his soul to corporate America. He doesn't care about it as long as his pockets are lined. Remember it was HIS idea to start this ridiculous playoff sytem he calls the chase. Why? Because he thought he could be bigger than the NFL, which will never happen, and because Matt Kenseth won the Winston Cup. I usually don't use the word never but it is applicable in this caes. One thing that would help NASCAR, IMO, is have all the races after Labor Day run on Saturday night. Then the people that like both the NFL & NASCAR can get to watch both of the what they enjoy without having to choose one or the other...bluejay

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Well said. I think Jeff Gordon would agree too, he would have been a five time champ now without the Chase format. I also love the idea of racing on Saturday night. They do a lot of races in May on Sat night, and those are some of the best races. Also Kenneseth would not have won his championship in the current format. I do like your thinking, I have been catching a lot of crap on here lately about being so negative about NASCAR, glad to see someone agrees with me.

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Fitz - It's hard not to be negative with some of the things that have been going on with NASCAR. I try my best to stay positive even if I don't like something. I figured if people wanted to spew a blog might be a better place for it. I really don't like all the PC crap in today's world but I don't want to be rude either.

As far as the night races I love them. I do understand that they don't want to hurt the local tracks so I can see why they don't do more of them. Here in Wisconsin a lot of our local tracks are done in the middle of September. I know in Ocala Florida they race into November as I'm sure others may that the weather allows. I still like watching local racers compete and without them there would be no NASCAR so I don't want to hurt them...bluejay

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

They race late here too, Cowtown speedway in Fort Worth. I like going to the Truck races beter anymore. They race harder, shorter races and they usually race at night. Much more exciting, I'm a Musgrave fan since he was driving the #1 Mopar truck, won a championship and they closed down the shop. Pretty crappy, and now he drives a Toyota, but I still root for him. I like David Starr too, met him once at TMS driving school, he talked to me and my 14 year old son for about an hour.....cool guy>

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

How about filling the 43 car field with 20 women and asians, and the remaining 23 drivers must avoid all the wrecks caused by excessive cell phone talking and cars trying to make right turns. That would liven things up.

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Bluejay, unfortunally, we will never see th "good ole Days" again.  Why, because first all the cars run in this series are front wheel drive, except the Charger.  Second, they are all 4 door cars, not the 2 door types.  Third, NASCAR decided they wanted to take the manufactures out of the loop for developing street cars that could run in their series.  There is no longer a mentality in the auto industry that says win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

Another problem we have seen is that they are expanding into markets that have people who want a homogenized sport. That is why we see the tracks going from 500 miles to 400 miles and we see fans that don't really know the sport but want to blast it because it is threating to overtake or has overtaken their sport in popularity.  Also, money has entered the equasion.  A top team now has 50 to 100 engineers working on the cars instead of mechanics and sponsors have voiced their concerns that their team cannot compete with another team.

Another point is we as old school fans are going to have to learn to adjust to NASCAR, just like we had to learn to adjust to the rule changes in other sports.  Do we have to like it?  No, but we do have to endure it.

About Bluejay's Nest
I saw others blogging so I though I would try as well. I live in Cambridge,WI and have all my life. I enjoy most sports and am a diehard Packer, Badger & Cubs fan (yes I like the Brewers as well). I really love auto racing but have been disappointed with the direction NASCAR has gone since Brian France took over. I have nicknamed him "The Ringmaster" since it's more of a circus atmosphere now than a race. I don't kow if that's good or bad but the popularity of NASCAR seems to be going down, at least with the fans who made it what it is/was. I post mostly on the autoboards and there is a great group of people over there. If you enjoy racing stop on over. Even if you don't check us out, as I said there's a great group over there. Thanks for reading...bluejay
