Bluejay - I would comment on it, but I don't really remember it happening. I only got to catch the last 29 laps, but even then my attention was elsewhere most of the time since it was my daughters sixth birthday.

So why am I commenting? Because I can.

Section - First of all congrats and Happy Birthday to your daughter. They are always fun at that age (even if it doesn't seem like it sometime).

On lap 183 Kyle Busch was below the yellow line when he passed Jimmie Johnson for the lead. It was brought up and the nature of the yellow line rule was debated. The people that said it was ok said he was forced below. I countered with you don't hear that from the clowns in the booth until someone does it. They come on and say the yellow line is "OUT OF BOUNDS", then when it happens they say "UNLESS" this or "UNLESS" that. That's what prompted me to post any rule requires "interpretation" and is randomly enforced is most likey a bad rule.

That pretty much summed up the post race debate on the Aaron's 499 thread and I'm gald you can comment...bluejay

This is an easy problem to fix. Put up a 6 inch wall around the track. You can even paint it yellow if you want, but nobody would be able to go below it.

It will never happen, so their shouldn't be an unless. If you go below the line then pass someone, it doesn't count. Look at Bristol, someone can come down to stop someone from passing them. The person passing has the choice, wreck or back off. Who is scared of a painted line?

Section you totally nailed it. What a great solution to the "yellow line" crap. A wall is a genius move, why can't NASCAR come up with solutions like this.

Section - I agree with Stockwell. I'm sure some would say it isn't safe, if that's the case have them put the safer wall material on it as well. They have it at Martinsville but I'm sure that will get the "apples and oranges" debate there.

If people want to force people into the wall (which I don't think would happen) NASCAR has the old 12-4-A they could invoke. I wonder if he has anything to say on the subject (LOL)...bluejay

Did someone mention my name? A wall would solve the problem. If you are worried about safety, just make it 2 inches high. Of course, then you have the problem of a car possibly going airborne. Seriously though, put a wall around the whole thing. You wouldn't have to worry about someone spinning across the grass and then directly into traffic. The cars can't stop on the grass anyway, and just keep their momentum until hopefully the driver can get it straightened out. There are walls at Martinsville, Bristol, etc... so put one in their as well, add the safer barrier, problem solved, no stupid line.

The wall is a good idea... but i think i can one up all of you on this one. How about we get a few of our fine sevice men to sit up high.... and if they see anyone go below the yellow line except to pit, then they launch a missle at them hahahaha, not only would it keep drivers from going below the line, but it would be cool to watch... oops Kyle Busch goes below the line, ka booom  I can just hear someone in the booth saying "thats gonna hurt his racing career, probably even end his life" or maybe land mines. Race cars and explosions... what better combination could you think of hahahahahaha.

I had to bring Jay out for a short time. He's never seen Green Bay (LOL).

I like the wall idea as well Section but you will get people that say comparing Martinsville to Talladega is apples and oranges (and they would have a point). Any way to get the randomness and judgement out of it is what I would like to see.

yeah... i doubt t would go over too well... but boy would it be cool to see ;-).

Although I must say in all seriousness, the wall my be a little unsafe as well, what if they made bellow the line grass or gravels instead? i mean a small wall is gonna do 2 things. 1) it just something else for people to hit at 200 MPH, cant say that sounds to safe. 2) if it is too low you may have a car go airborne. Grass will make you spin out and then Nascar won't have to penalize you, cause you'll end up at the back of the field without nascar's say in the matter. Honestly, I don't know if there is a safe answer to the question that enforces an out of bounds rule. Maybe just get rid of the out of bounds and let the drivers go anywhere they want on the asphalt?

I will say at our local track they put impliment tires on the inside of turns 1 and 2 because drivers in the two lower classes would cut down on the grass & dirt to pass. They worked for those 2 classes but after a Late Model or two hit them, not trying to pass low, they were replaced with rumble strips. I thought the big tires were a bad idea but I like the rumble strips. The only thing I said was if the owner would have had the guts to just park somebody when they did that the problem would have been solved right then.

Now I understand NASCAR is not going to park someone for something like a yellow line violation but do something. Put up a wall, add rumble strips or paint the lines white again and let em go...bluejay
